The husband of my U.S. client (age 85 at death in 2016) had SIPP Funds in the UK even after he moved here with his wife (my client) over 10 years ago. Wife is now age 79.
While there was a legal matter involving her legal rights to the SIPP - as it was created years before she moved to UK to marry him- it is now available to her. I've learned from prior communications that funds in UK can't be trustee-to-trustee transferred, my question is whether or not she can take a 100% distribution of the SIPP, close it out, and immediately upon receipt (after bank clearance of funds) roll it over into an IRA Rollover account and take distributions under the usual IRA distribution rules.
