    I have a calendar year S corp that want  to stop business as of Oct 31, 2019.

    Can i file a final return after Oct. 31,2019, on a 2018 tax form??

    Yes you can file a short year return on the. 2018 forms marked final.

    I do not believe so because IRS already has a return with the 2018 forms so filing electronically with generate an error message saying return has already been filed. A paper return is most likely required.

    The process first requires a final return.  If you check the box final they will mail you permission to dissolve - Form TR-960.  Then you need to file a certificate of dissolution with a copy of the permission and a check for $60. (the last I checked)  The New York State Dept. of State web has information.​
