1.  Data Transfer From 2016 to 2017

Posted 4 days ago

I have just been informed by Lacerte that New York is one of only three states that will not allow the transfer of Driver License information and W-2 / 1099 state withholding ID numbers from the 2016 tax program to the 2017 program.  These numbers must be re-entered into the 2017 program.  (https://accountants-community.intuit.com/articles/1633232-new-proforma-data-requirements-from-state-agencies)

An opportunity is being presented for our advocacy groups to convince New York to allow the transfer of this data.  You may wish to add your voice to this endeavor.

The tax committee has been aware of this for a while and it has been addressed. It is likely that we will see more states follow, as this is not a matter of convenience, but a matter of security.
