Steve Miller is a Certified Public Accountant [CPA] with an extensive array of tax consulting, teaching and writing experience. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bethany College in 1976. His graduate education includes two Masters Degrees (MMed. and MSA) from the University of North Texas. From 1984 through 1991, he worked for two international accounting firms beginning as a staff member and advancing to senior tax manager. With these firms, he acquired extensive domestic and international taxation experience. Mr. Miller was a member of the expatriate tax practice team [US persons working overseas and foreign nationals working in the US], the Japanese International Network [JIN] and was involved in the development and testing of computer tax software for the firms. He has worked in Dallas, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Brussels, Washington DC, Florida and Chicago.
Mr. Miller has authored international tax training courses and worked as an instructor for the Professional Development Institute [PDI]. In November 2014, he presented at the Sourcemedia Growth & Profitability Summit in Boca Raton. He created nationally broadcast webinars for ACPEN – an organization that provides CPE to most of the State CPA Societies. Mr. Miller has written various courses including: "Overview of International Taxation" and "Taxation of International Transactions." He has been published by the Dallas Business Journal and Today’s CPA magazine for articles on international expatriate taxation and “Tax Planning for Incentive Stock Options.” He speaks on a variety of tax related subjects including business start up strategies, new franchisee training & development, employee stock options [ISOs, NQSOs, RSUs] and option exercise strategies. He also creates retirement strategies that focus on maximizing cash flow while minimizing the income tax and Medicare premium costs.
His CPA firm's practice has three foci: (1) complete small business support including entity selection, tax & accounting services, business strategy & planning along with related counseling designed to lead the client to better results; (2) full service tax consulting for the high net worth/income individual employing forward looking and proactive tax strategies; (3) international and cross border tax consulting for businesses and individuals. This area includes both inbound and outbound planning. Other services include tax planning and compliance for corporations, partnerships, trusts and LLCs, and representation of clients before the Internal Revenue Service. Mr. Miller works with attorneys in guiding clients through the Overseas Voluntary Disclosure Program for unreported foreign accounts and income [OVDP] working with the IRS’ Criminal Investigation Division.
