Long story but here goes
A client’s 2016 Tax Return has been changed by the IRS and additional tax due for what we believe are missing 1099-Rs of the soon to be ex-Spouse. Innocent Spouse Relief was filed but IRS denied as they want additional information and proof that the income was not my clients or that she has no knowledge when making the appeal. The only letter my client received from the IRS about the additional tax due was the CP22A (Increase in Tax). Any idea on how to get copies of the prior letters to see exactly what income IRS is requesting additional tax for? A little precursor, this is not a harmonious split - I do believe letters were sent to by IRS to my client but at the martial address and client did not advise she me of her change of address until preparing the 2017 Return which is when she received the CP22A.
Thank you
