Title: Write-Offs for Everyone! - Depreciation After the TCJA
Speakers: Matthew E. Rappaport, Esq., LL.M. (TAX) and Joseph Stackhouse, Esq., LL.M (TAX)
Learning Objective: The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 changed Sections 168 and 179 of the Internal Revenue Code to allow depreciation deductions quicker and in higher amounts than ever before. The changes are highly taxpayer-friendly but come with a slew of complications, including New York State’s differing treatment of these items, Section 1245 recapture, brand new terminology, and expiration dates of the statutory changes. This presentation will provide an overview of the depreciation changes, then explore the nuances and cover best practices. There will be a particular focus on real estate impacts.
