Apparently, both clients applied for UI. During the pandemic, the process was basically to pay first and ask questions later. Your college student may have worked part-time in covered employment and sought benefits as a consequence. Form letters are precisely that. The response should be directed to the circumstances; in other words, even if the form asks only for Schedule C, an explanation as to the basis for eligibility (whether self-employment, the relevant base period, etc.) should be given. Bear in mind that these are not personalized letters and are being sent out wholesale.
Best,
Ruth Kraft

Subject: Pandemic NYS unemployment for self employed
I have two clients with a 3-page letter from the NYS Unemployment department, if that is the one you have seen. One person just graduated from college, the other a 45 year old bar room bouncer. Except for the name, address and SS number, the letters are identical. Frankly, I too am puzzled as to a proper response.
Any ideas from the crowd?

My client received pandemic unemployment as self employed as a 100% shareholder in a S corp.
NYS is now asking for proof of self employment but they do not list any forms for a S Corp, only schedule C and partnership.
Is my client not considered self-employed?
Does anyone have a similar situation?
