I received an email today from a client whose insurance broker contacted them about a Form 720 filing requirement. This concerns a PCORI (Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute) Fee, which is calculated based on the number of insured employees and their dependents.
For context, the PCORI Fee was established under the Affordable Care Act (Obama Care), and the funds collected are used to support research that helps determine the effectiveness of various medical treatments, aiding both patients and doctors in making informed healthcare decisions.
It appears this filing requirement began in 2012 and is scheduled to conclude in 2029.
I wanted to ask if anyone has experience filing these for their clients? Or do you know of any companies that file these? There is a lot of insurance terms referred to in the instructions that I am not familiar with.
