Construction Company doing capital improvements always has filed an sales tax return showing

gross sales $x, Taxable $0.  NYS sent them a notice telling them they have to register for a sales tax

certificate of authority.  NYS sales tax claims they became not registered in 2/01/2011, even though they

have filed quarterly forever.  Has anyone else gotten this notice

    Thanks

    Hi Sharon,

Sounds typical for them.  I would recommend just registering the client, as it will probably take much more time to fix than to just simply register again.

But a big round of applause for you for filing on a contractor, even with no taxable sales.  I've been preaching that advice for more than 25 years!

    Sharon,
I have seen letters like yours. The only thing to do is register.

No but we have gotten a whole lot of other topic stupid NYS letters such as married ladies getting notice of non-filed returns from 2-3 year ago when the actually did file jointly with their spouse, and timely too!...Just makes you want to shake your head.  MSR
