IRS and AICPA Keynote Speakers Featured at NCCPAP’s 19th Annual Accounting and Tax Symposium

Headliners Barry Melancon, President & CEO of AICPA and Ken Corbin, Chief Taxpayer Experience Officer at the IRS, Present on November 9th and 12th

September 23, 2021—The Educational Foundation of the Nassau/Suffolk Chapter of NCCPAP and the Nassau/Suffolk Chapter of NCCPAP are proud to announce this year’s esteemed keynote speakers for this fall’s Accounting and Tax Symposium (ATS 2021). Ken Corbin, the recently announced Chief Taxpayer Experience Officer at the IRS, and Barry Melancon, long time President & CEO of AICPA will kick-off days one and two of what has become known as ‘the place to be for the most up to date tax information anywhere on the East Coast’. The Symposium topics are tailored to an audience of tax and accounting professionals.

According to conference chairman, Robert L. Goldfarb, CPA, CGMA, DBAFA, “We are honored to have such prestigious keynote speakers to lead our already fantastic lineup of over 25 experienced and highly knowledgeable leaders in their fields.” We look forward to both Ken’s and Barry’s opening remarks.

About Barry C. Melancon CPA, CGMA, President and CEO, AICPA
Mr. Melancon is the longest serving CEO in the organization's 133-year history. Under his tenure, the AICPA has grown to become the largest membership body of CPAs in the world and has directed numerous initiatives to benefit not only the profession, but also investors, business owners, lenders, and the public. Under his leadership, the AICPA formed a joint venture with CIMA to elevate management accounting globally. Together, the organizations created the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation for those professionals who meet the highest benchmark of rigor and quality.

Melancon is also Global Chairman of the Board of the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC), Chairman of XBRL-US, and a founding and current board member of both the Global Accounting Alliance (GAA) and the Center for Audit Quality (CAQ). He is a founding and current board member of the Government Transformation Initiative, serves on the board of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Center for Capital Markets Competitiveness, and is a member of the delegation to the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). During 2007-2008, Melancon served on the U.S. Department of the Treasury Advisory Committee on the Auditing Profession.

His extensive experience also includes spearheading the development of a new cybersecurity assurance service, the professionalization of a cloud-based client accounting service, the next generation of leadership academies, the computerization of the US-CPA exam, the global CGMA exam, uniform licensure for CPAs throughout the country, and has helped elevate CPA and CGMA skills globally for technology and business service.

 

About Kenneth (Ken) Corbin, Chief Taxpayer Experience Officer, IRS
The Taxpayer Experience Office was created to ensure that the views and experiences of taxpayers and their professional representatives would be factored into all aspects of IRS operations. In this newly created role, Mr. Corbin works with business units and offices across the IRS, including Chief Counsel and the Independent Office of Appeals. He also works in coordination with the National Taxpayer Advocate, an independent organization inside the agency that helps taxpayers with issues that cannot be resolved with the IRS.

Mr. Corbin began his career in government service at the Atlanta Service Center in 1986. His experience includes 10 years in submission processing, three in accounts management, six in compliance services, and three in the Taxpayer Advocate Service, and numerous executive assignments across the agency.
