National Conference of CPA Practitioners (NCCPAP) President Neil H. Fishman, CPA, CFE, FCPA, CAMS, will be speaking on the topic of taxpayer refunds during his interview with Doug Llewelyn (of The People’s Court) on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 4PM EST. The interview will be broadcasted live by Close Up Radio. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 brought significant changes to the law. With the 2020 filing season approaching, taxpayers should be concerned about compliance, now, more than ever.
According to Neil, “My job is to keep taxpayers out of trouble with the IRS and other taxing authorities and make sure that everything reported is accurate. I don't see it as just preparing a tax return. My job is to help taxpayers understand why: why are they getting back less money this year? Why do they owe more money this year? The numbers tell a story. They tell an individual or business where their money is going, where they might need to cut back, and where money can be better spent. Furthermore, if a tax return is marked self-prepared, that person is held to the same standard as a paid preparer, and if audited by the IRS, that person’s life could become very complicated.”
