NCCPAP NOW: Tax Update and Why Occupational Fraud Occurs

Feature: Why Occupational Fraud Occurs

Accountants and auditors are responsible for detecting and deterring fraud by evaluating accounting systems for weaknesses, designing and monitoring internal controls, determining the degree of organizational fraud risk, interpreting financial data for unusual trends, and following up on fraud indicators; therefore, it is imperative that we, as CPAs, become informed about this topic and the resources available for educating ourselves over the long term. At this session, you will learn about the history behind and definition of occupational fraud, the perceived opportunity and rationalization behind what has been termed ‘white collar crime’, and the current trends cited by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).

Learning Objectives:

This session will be led by NCCPAP’s National President who will give an update on various issues and tax topics affecting practitioners. Next, attendees will hear from our IRS liaison regarding specifics on the status of IRS Notices, Congressional legislation, and pending tax laws affecting your practices and your clients. These two topics will be followed by our featured speaker/topic detailed above, as well as look into current and trusted resources to assist members.
